Viewpoints Industry Offers Food Safety Advice for Summer

In most parts of the United States, it is hot and humid outside. It is also grilling season. Viewpoints Industry TV offer suggestions on how to keep food safe from bacteria when sun is beaming.

Picnics and outdoor parties are the norm during the pleasant days and evenings of summer. Let’s keep all food safe from anything which can make us feel like a beached jellyfish.

  • Keep all food made with mayonnaise refrigerated before serving. Find, buy and use eggless mayo if needing it for salads and sandwiches.
  • Avoid making anything with eggs and leaving it on a table outside until ready to eat.
  • Oysters should be cooked, boiled, broiled or fried to avoid consuming virbrio, a warm salt water-based bacteria. If one has to have them raw and on the half shell, throw out any that have a cracked shell or are partially open since the salt water can enter them that way.
  • Grill food at lower temperatures to avoid charring it. The char burnt portion of meat contains chemicals which can be carcinogenic. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the meat reaches the right temp to kill bacteria.
  • Raw meat should be stored in the fridge or freezer. Defrost frozen meat in the fridge overnight, in the microwave, or in a bowl of cold water. Never leave it on the counter all day long in the summer.
  • Wash all summer fruit such as peaches and strawberries carefully to rid them of pesticides. Keep them fresh in the fridge.
  • Going to a farmer’s market? Be sure to go early instead of later in the day. Vegetables that have been sitting in the heat too long start to go bad.

The Viewpoints Industry TV show wishes everyone a safe, healthy and happy summer.

Viewpoints Industry -- Prevent Cancer – Get Up and Move at Work

People who spend a great portion of their day are a little more likely to develop certain types of cancer than those who are more active. Viewpoints Industry reviews why it is imperative we get up and move at work.

When we are sedentary all day long, sitting at a desk, behind a steering wheel or some other job which requires no real movement, we are taking risks with our bodies and eventually our lives. Sitting all day often results in poor blood circulation, high blood pressure, stiff muscles and joints and can be a precursor for colon or endometrial cancer. So get up move.

There are many ways to get extra movement into the work day:
Take one fifteen minute break at mid-morning and one in mid-afternoon to walk outside or walk around the floor. Bend knees and elbows and bend the head down to relieve any stress.
If a one hour lunch break is given, take half of it and go for a walk.
When allowed, get up and walk to someone’s office rather than call or email.
Take the stairs instead of an escalator or elevator if possible.
Break the day up with short bits of light activity. It also helps the eyes when they are strained.

These small steps help a great deal in the overall health of everyone. Viewpoints Industry suggests adding activity to your life. Every little bit helps.

Viewpoints Industry with Summer Travel Tips

Summer is the time of year when families and singles travel near and far. Viewpoints Industry shares some tips for summer travel.

Vehicle travel is the main mode of transportation for most people who don’t plan on going too far. To make it easier and less stressful for everyone, remember to pack these items before leaving the house: mints, upset stomach aids, a small first aid kit or make on up with bandages, antibacterial ointment, rubbing alcohol pads, bandage tape, bug bite remedies, Epi pens and whatever else might be needed.

Air travel is another favorite way to get someplace and most of the time, we tend to fly into another time zone. If going very far, say to another continent, jet lag can bring down the most frequent flier. Here are some suggestions on how to beat it:

  • Reset your body clock a few days before the flight by going to bed an hour earlier (if heading east) or an hour later (heading West) three days before departure.
  • Change the time of your watch to the time zone you will arrive in as soon as you take your seat on the plane.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink two eight ounce glasses of water before departure and one glass or bottle per hour on flights.
  • Eat light, healthy meals before, during and after a flight as heavier meals can mess with sleep.
  • Need a nap? Set a clock for 20 or 30 minutes and take a cat nap. Sleeping longer will keep you up later.
  • Go take a walk. Not only will this get blood moving again and loosen stiff muscles from sitting for a long time, but the sunlight is a natural energy booster. Go explore!
  • Pack and eye mask and ear plugs in your under the seat bag to block out anything which can interfere with a good sleep on the flight. Viewpoints Industry TV believes these tips will help all travelers enjoy a great vacation. Happy trails!
