Viewpoints Industry TV on Power Outage Reminders

As severe storms race through the south east region of the country, thousands of people will lose power. Viewpoints Industry TV offers some reminders about what to do when the power blinks off.

If it is still daylight, find some working flashlights and keep them in an easily accessible place like a kitchen counter or in a box on the coffee table. Also, locate any candles and matches and put them someplace where it’s easy to find and light them when needed.

Unplug any piece of equipment that was turned on before the power went out. This included stoves, microwaves, TVs and lamps. Power surges are common as the power company works to get everyone back up and running, and surges can ruin anything that is still turned on and plugged in. Be safe. Unplug everything unnecessary.

Leave one lamp or an overhead light turned on to determine when the power is back on.

Keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed unless absolutely necessary to open. This will keep the items in them fresher longer.

Viewpoints Industry also suggests keeping cool by drinking plenty of water – at least a glassful every 20 minutes. Dampen bandanas or washcloths in cool water and press them on the neck, forehead and wrists to cool down.

Purify tap water by letting it boil at a roiling pace for a minute. Of course, this only works for those with a gas stove. Those without a gas stove can do the following to purify contaminated water:
⅛ of a teaspoon can be added for every gallon of clear water, or ¼ teaspoon of bleach for each gallon of cloudy water. Stir well and let stand for at least 30 minutes before you use it. Disinfected water should be stored in clean containers that have tight covers.

Stay safe and healthy during a power outage.

Viewpoints Industry TV on the Best Cities for Single Retirees

Tired of seeing all the ads of happily married retirees on the TV? We are, so we sought out the best cities for single retired people – and realized most of them are in our general area.

The highest number of unmarried retirees are in the Miami and New Orleans areas, where half of the residents are single, age 60 and up. Viewpoints Industry TV also learns that New Orleans has a somewhat large percentage of widows and widowers, while Miami has more who have never been married. Both of these cities offer an abundance of activities from the arts to professional sports. Both have excellent public transportation systems and great healthcare.  In cities like Albany and Cleveland, there are more single retired women than men.

1.Miami
2. New Orleans
3. Jackson, Miss.
4. Memphis, Tenn.
5. New York
6. Cleveland
7. Albany, N.Y.
8. Las Vegas
9. Buffalo, N.Y.
10. Los Angeles

Viewpoints Industry learns that many of these cities provide opportunities to continue education. The key to having a great retirement is to keep busy, be healthy and maintain social relationships. All of the above cities give its older residents the ability to do all of that. This is why they all made the top ten.

Viewpoints Industry and How to Get the Best Deal

Spring is the season for sales. But sometimes a better deal can be found online. Viewpoints Industry TV shares how to find the best deal.

Before getting in the car and heading to the mall, go online to see if the items you want can be bought for less on the Internet. Check email to see if there are any discount codes for favorite stores in the Inbox. Check out the store’s website for any discount codes on certain items or for savings on the total. Check out sale apps and only use the ones needed.

When in the store, ask lots of questions when with a sales person. Does the store offer price matching? Is the sale exclusive to shopping in the store or does it also apply online? Does the store offer free shipping with the purchase? What is the return policy? Viewpoints Industry encourages shoppers to get all the facts before buying something. No one wants to stuck with a higher credit card bill or an empty wallet.

Set the shopping budget in stone and do not budge no matter how heavy the sales people are pushing something. I was once followed around the store by a very pushy clerk who wanted me to sign up for their credit card right there on the spot. It apparently would have saved me an extra 20% on purchases that day. But when I got home, (without signing up), the same deal was online. Know what you want when walking in the store and do not be swayed by heavy-handed attempts to sell you something you don’t want or need.

How Make Your Paycheck Last Longer from Viewpoints Industry

Does it seem like your paycheck does not last as long it used to? Does it seem like it’s getting smaller? Viewpoints Industry finds some ways to paychecks stretch and last longer during tough financial times.

Never pay full price for anything if you can help it. Use store sale circulars, clip coupons or use a smart phone code, stock up on sale items, and take advantage of every special you can. Don’t forget that sometimes the store brand is just as good as the name brand item.

Join store loyalty program to save money on food, gas, drug store items and travel. If giving your personal email address to such a program gives you the willies, register a new email address using another service.

Check out blog sites which compare coupon deals and post the best ones online. Three good sites are: Retailmenot.com, redplum.com, bargainbriana.com and moneysavingmom.com.

ViewpointsIndustry TV suggests signing up for email alerts with your favorite retailers. At least once a week, they will send out discount codes for certain items and sometimes offer free shipping and free returns.

Buy and use reusable products like water bottles, soft lunch boxes and blue ice which keep food cold. These are perfect for taking lunch to work and for always being sure you have plenty of water on your desk. This will help save a lot of money on fast food and the gas used to get to and from a restaurant.

Please let us know how your make your paycheck last longer. Every little bit not spent is more to save or more to put toward something special.

Time-Saving Travel Tips from Viewpoints Industry TV

image: Regus office space

Time cost money when the business traveler is on the go. Viewpoints Industry TV wants to make the next business trip faster, easier and better.

Be loyal to your loyalty clubs for airlines, hotels and rental cars. Loyal customers get better perks like seat and room upgrades and rental cars are usually ready for you at arrival.

Invest in the TSA PreCheck and Global Access. These two services which cost a small one time only fee speed travelers through security check points. Nothing is more frustrating to a harried business traveler than waiting in a long line to get through security.

Never, ever check luggage. Carry on your one bag for the trip and pack it like a pro. Most business trips last a few days to a week and everything needed fits in it.

Viewpoints Industry suggests beefing up data plans to be sure all devices have the speed to help the business traveler get work done.

Pack chargers, cords and extra batteries in baggies. It keeps them from getting tangled and they are easily accessible in the under the seat bag.

Consider shared office spaces like offices Regus offers. Business travelers will find everything they need there with live people if assistance is needed. It also provides meeting rooms. Good luck.

Viewpoints Industry TV on Why Procrastinating is Not Your Fault

Feel better, procrastinators. It is not your fault if you tend to keep putting things off. Viewpoints Industry TV shares some insight about why procrastinating is not your fault.

Blame it on your ancestors. The same genetic characteristics that lead to impulsivity are also linked to procrastination. Researchers at the University of ColoradoBoulder tested 181 sets of identical twins and 165 sets of fraternal twins. Based on the behavior of the twins, the scientists found that there is indeed a genetic link to procrastination. Our earliest ancestors often acted impulsively which seems to have led their relatives later to put off making rash decisions. Also, our lives now are more centered on making long-term goals which we can put off making for a while. The Viewpoints Industry TV show notices that there are some people who tend to procrastinate longer than others. While this can seem like the person is being lazy about making a decision or taking action on something, it is usually more a matter of waiting to see if it necessary or not. When we see people we know making rash decisions, we tend to not rush into making the same mistakes. Procrastination is not a bad thing. Sometimes, it is simply a matter of necessity. And we inherited it from our ancestors.

Viewpoints Industry on the End of Microsoft XP Updates

April 8 will be the end day for any security updates for users with Microsoft XP on their computers or laptops. Viewpoints Industry relays what this means to consumers and offers suggestions about what to do about it.

There are some computer users who take a nonchalant approach to operating systems and the seemingly endless number of security updates they employ. Now is the time to think smarter about them and finally spend the time and money to upgrade from Microsoft Windows XP. We remind readers that there have been four new operating systems from them since XP came out: Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1..

Bank ATMs are mostly run on the XP operating system, accordingly to NCR, the nation’s leading supplier of ATMs. They estimate that 95% of them run XP and only 20-30% will be fixed before the April 8 end date.

Viewpoints Industry TV suggests upgrading old computers or if that is not feasible now, at least upgrade to one of the newer operating systems such as Windows 7, 8 or 8.1. Even Vista is not considered all that secure today. When security holes are found by developers, they release a patch to fix it. There will be no more security patches for XP after April 8.

Hacking attempts and attacks have struck many name-brand corporations as well as small businesses and consumers. Why take chances on letting cyber sneaks into personal or business networks? Upgrade old computers and older operating systems.
